Description
Aiwa's XR-MS3 is a micro-system for consumers who want basic music sources like CD and AM/FM tuner and will pay more for a stylish, space-saving design. It also has extras like Dolby B noise reduction, for accurate decoding of prerecorded cassettes -- something rarely seen in micro-systems.
This model features an extra emphasis on space conservation. Width is under 4 inches, the CD player is vertical slot-loading, and the single-cassette deck is top-loading. Features include two-way bass reflex speakers finished in black with silver highlights. The speakers are fed by 12 watts each, one of the lowest wattage figures in the Aiwa digital audio line. In addition to Dolby, the auto-reverse cassette deck has full-logic soft-touch controls so you can hop directly from, say, play to fast forward. The CD player is CD-R/-RW compatible. The tuner is digital, or numeric, which means it fixes directly on station frequencies without drifting away from them, and offers up to 32 presets for quick recall of programmed AM/FM stations.
The Super T Bass function includes three levels of bass boost and the tone-enhancing graphic EQ (equalizer) offers three presets. Use the optical digital output to hook up to an MD or CD-R component, and the subwoofer output to connect to an external subwoofer for extra whomp in the rhythm section. Hit the Q Surround button to activate the simulated surround sound mode. The BBE feature manipulates the treble frequencies to adjust for frequency and phase distortions.
